UV light-cured CIPP technology has become one of the most widely used solutions for trenchless pipeline rehabilitation. Recently, a special visit marked an important milestone in the history of this technology.
Jan Börje Persson, CEO of JBP, returned to the location where the very first commercial UV-CIPP rehabilitation project was carried out. The visit coincided with the 40th anniversary of this pioneering installation, offering a unique opportunity to reflect on the evolution and global impact of UV-cured liner technology.
What began four decades ago as an innovative concept has since developed into a proven and widely adopted method for pipeline renewal across the world.
During the visit, Börje was accompanied by former colleagues Roland Lindberg and Thomas Lundmark, both of whom were involved during the early days of UV-CIPP development. They were also joined by Nicklas Björnvind, current Managing Director of Inpipe Sweden AB.
Together, the group revisited the historic project site and shared memories of the early stages of the technology that helped shape modern trenchless rehabilitation.
Today, UV-cured CIPP solutions continue to play a key role in sustainable infrastructure renewal, enabling municipalities and utilities to rehabilitate pipelines efficiently while minimizing excavation, disruption, and environmental impact.
For a deeper look at this remarkable milestone and the story behind the first commercial UV-CIPP installation, the full article is available in the issue of Trenchless Works.
